About Miguel
Mike Tyson put a twist on his own name by naming a son Miguel. It's the first name of Cervantes, the great Spanish novelist and poet who wrote Don Quixote.
Miguel has always charted in the US, but peaked in the 80s and 90s along with other classic Hispanic names such as Jesus, Luis, and Jorge.
Older Gen Zs may know of the popular PBS kids show from the early 2000s, Maya and Miguel, while kids today have the adorable, guitar-playing Miguel from the sensational Pixar film Coco.
Miguel is also given to girls.
Pronounced mee-GEL.
As of October 2026, Miguel ranked #212 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #86 in 2000, Nameberry popularity #607.
