About Garen
A short form of Garegin, Garen is an Armenian name, more popularly transcribed as Karen, to reflect its Western Armenian pronunciation (kah-REHN). Ultimately borrowed from Persian, it means "precious, high-value", and was the name of the of the Seven Great Houses of Iran in the 6th century.
It may also be used as a spelling variation of the Irish Garron, meaning "guardian, warrior" or a spin on Garrett (from Gerald, meaning "power of the spear"), Gareth ("valor"), Garance ("red plant"), or Garan ("gelding" or "guards").
