About Aeson
Better known for his son and his quest for the Gold Fleece, Aeson was the father of Jason in Greek mythology. There are two varying myths around Aison, one being that he committed suicide after being imprisoned by his half-brother Pelias, and the other being he was killed by Jason's wife Medea, who then brought him to life again as a young man.
Also spelled as Aison, the exact meaning of the name is unknown, though there is a chance that it may relate to Iason, the source of Jason, which means "to heal".
Aeson has been in the US stats since the late 90s but more consistently since 2005. Around 40 boys were given the name in a recent year, though whether parents are using it for its Greek origins (possible in this age of mythological names) or whether it's being used as a creative mix of Aiden, Jason, Mason, and Kaeson is unknown. As such, it may be heard as AY-suhn too.
Pronounced AY-sun.
As of October 2026, Aeson ranked #2993 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #1849 in 2019.
