Tavaris

Tavaris is a masculine name that appears to be a modern variation of names like Travis or possibly Tavares. The name emerged in usage in the United States primarily in the 1970s-1990s. Its etymology is not definitively established, but it may relate to the surname Tavares, which has Portuguese origins. Alternatively, it could be connected to Travis (from a French surname meaning 'to cross'). The addition of the 'is' ending creates a distinctive sound pattern while maintaining recognizable elements. Tavaris has a strong, rhythmic quality with its three syllables and balanced consonant-vowel pattern. While never extremely common, it has maintained steady usage, particularly in the southeastern United States. The name exemplifies creative adaptations of more traditional names that emerged in late 20th century American naming practices.

Tavaris is also given to girls.

Pronounced tuh-VAR-is.

As of October 2026, Tavaris ranked #10772 in US births in 1986 SSA.
