Happy Baby Names: Cheery choices for your child

With gloomy and depressing headlines hitting the news every day about international trouble spots and the tanking economy, what’s a forward-looking, optimistic baby namer, who wants to project a warm, welcoming, positive sense of the world to her innocent little newbie, to do?

Here are a few strategy suggestions.

1. PICK A NAME WITH A HAPPY MEANING.  There are lots of choices that mean or connote happiness, hope, friendliness and good luck.  These happy baby names include,

Tatum

For boys

Polly

Rosie

Boys

Georgie

Jack

Peter

3. PICK A NAME FROM THE LAND OF DISNEY.  If, indeed, Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, what better domain to pick a happy-ending name from?  Among the many to choose from:

Girls

Adelade

Amelia

Ariel

Audrey

Aurora

Belle

Bianca

Cleo

Daisy

Dinah

Esmeralda

Eudora

Flora

Jasmine

Lilo

4.  PICK A VIRTUOUS NAME. Despite all obstacles, you want your child to be truthful, loyal, kind, honest and prudent. You can telegraph that positive message from the get-go by choosing a name such as:

Amity

Charity

Grace

Honor

Hope

Faith

Justice

Mercy

Patience

Prudence

Serenity

True

Verity

There is also the word name Prosper! – which has such a nice sound and of course would show hope that your child will do well in life. 🙂

@Trusttedwriter – ooh, I love Prosper! I’m not one to ever use word names as a first, but it would make a stunning middle.

I have Aurora, Belle, Violet, Oliver, Gideon, Isaac, and Esmeralda on my baby name list. And…I have a grandmother named Daisy (sister was Rose), another grandmother named Mary (Merry), and a great-grandmother named Lucille (Lucy), lol.

I love Disney names.

I just have to say that I love seeing Bellamy on the boys list 🙂

So tired of seeing Ariel on the girls suggestion, its a MALE name, no matter what Disney thinks! I expect better from Nameberry, seriously.

Also, considering how short the boys list is, why not put Tatum and Joy there? Perfectably usable. As is Sunny.

You know what i even visit baby names sites and suggest names to my friends and family. I picked Laurell & Larissa from your list. Babynology also helps me to collect my favorite baby names

Mirabella, its not on the list but its a beautiful name and its a uplifting joyful name that brings a smile to your face every time I say it. Its not a typical name, I have yet to hear of another kid with her name. It can also be broken down into simpler names. I call Mirabella, Mira for short most of the time, while my husband calls her Bell or Bella. Its a great twist to so many of the BELLA names that are so popular right now. It means Wonderful & Beautiful Miracle.

@Skizzo – tell that to the parents of the girl I went to school with 20 years ago (who was born before Disney’s The Little Mermaid was created) – Arielle. Like it or not, Ariel has become a girls name and I LOVE it! I so so SO wanted my first daughter to be Ariel (she ended up Allison instead.)
Lots of boys names are now girls names – Shannon for example.
