I have heard a few this year that I love
A double whammy- I know 2 babies who have been called Ruby Skye in the past year. Not my style, but it is nice to say!
I actually LOVE Briar Rose as a name (the name Rachel Bilson chose). I love the name Briar for a boy or a girl!
Also love the name of Scarlett Johanssen’s baby- Rose Dorothy.
Ella Louise is also a pretty combo (if very popular) that I have heard recently.
Saw an announcement on Nameberry a while ago for a Samson Gabriel- great choices!

I can’t pick the BEST name this year because I have heard so many good names that I like for all different reasons, plus a lot of it just has to do with sheer personal taste (and I have a weird taste in names). You know what would be easier? The WORST name we’ve heard all year. Yeah. That should be the next blog post. I’m excited to hear what other Berries have to say on this, though.

I really like my baby cousin’s name, Cleo – it suits her so well because she’s shy yet cheeky!
on November 12th, 2014 at 2:34 am
I agree with DearestJules that I have heard such wonderful names (mostly here on the berry announcements) this year that its tough to pick just one. I will say one that still sticks in my mind was a berry who named their little boy Liev. Love that name and the meaning. 🙂

It’s not a very original or out-there name, but my mom’s cousin just named her first son Theodore David nn Teddy. I think I’m partial to it because Theodore is my favorite boy name and I think it just flows so well, especially with their last name.

Babies I know: I think the best ones were Adrian and Eline.
Celebrities: Alexander Frost, Ophelia Saint, Alexandra Kalliope, Stefan, Maxim, Raphael & Annabel.

I’m partial to Otis Alexander (Olivia Wilde’s son) because I love Otis- and they paired it with a nice strong middle name. I also love Samuel Hawke, another great pairing! I had to go back and look because I remembered two great twinsets in June on the boards- Ingrid Adele and Odette Frances and also Wesley James and Juliet Elise; non-matchy twins that sound so nice together! In October there was a girl named Louisa Colette which is also lovely!

I absolutely love the name Briar Rose!
on November 12th, 2014 at 10:22 am
Mika, a baby girl, big sister Emi. The parents met when stationed in Japan; their little girls’ names sound vaguely exotic and “kawaii.” I think their names are perfect!
on November 12th, 2014 at 10:44 am
My cousins have had a few babies this year and I think they did really good jobs with the names:
My best friend had her second daughter (first one Ava Cadence):
Normally I wouldn’t be crazy about Ava and Chloe, but because I know their parents so well, the names really suit these little girls.
on November 12th, 2014 at 11:11 am
My antenatal class has so far produced a great group of boys…
Aiden, Ellis, Casper, Oscar and Rupert
Girls wise I don’t think I’ve heard anything unusual from friends recently!
on November 12th, 2014 at 11:43 am
Only one! Haha, then I shall choose Eli <3 It *was* a tie up with Samuel, but I just love the way Eli sounds.
on November 12th, 2014 at 12:20 pm
I heard if a boy called Arlo Fox. Thought it was great, not sure if I’d use it myself maybe one or the other but not both as I’m just don’t think I’m brave enough! I do also love Briar Rose, such a pretty name.
on November 12th, 2014 at 12:28 pm
Prim. Really it stuck out to me because of the whole sibset: Paisley, Piper, and Prim. Love how they all go together.
on November 12th, 2014 at 12:53 pm
Rachel Bilson must be a big fan of Sleeping Beauty! I am too and I adore Briar Rose!
In real life, I know someone that had a baby girl last month and named her Emelia Jane. The spelling bothers me some, but it’s still a cute name. They call her Em. Em names are pretty popular around here.
on November 12th, 2014 at 1:15 pm
The name Wilhelmina Jane Hansen is just adorable <3
A friend chose Otto Morgan for their son and I thought it was adorable. Another friend chose Elias Bond, nn Eli. Bond is the mom's maiden name.
on November 12th, 2014 at 1:16 pm
Friends of a friend named their precious son Fox Harrison, and I think it’s simply perfect! The balance between elegance and spunk is impeccable, and I just adore the combo. 🙂
on November 12th, 2014 at 1:39 pm
Some friends of mine named their dear son Turner Evan (brother for Eli David and Aidan Joshua.)
on November 12th, 2014 at 1:57 pm
My grandmother’s brother named his next youngest daughter Nicole (called Nikki), and another of his daughter Malou. He also named one of his sons Patrick. I absolutely love these name!

We had our second boy in August and named him Christian Xavier, and we have gotten so many compliments on his name. We really love it, of course :), but didn’t expect to receive such an overwhelmingly positive response to it!

Avalon, Elia, Aero, Avianna, Brielle, Eris, Meridian, Nova, Lumia, Noemi, Briseis, Amalia & Galilei for girls. Isaias, Cassiel, Liev for boys. Combos: Georgia Kate, Cadence Noel. No boys born recently

An acquaintance of mine named her daughter Violet Marjorie. I think Marjorie is a family name but I feel like it is seldom heard and I like that about it. Violet is an evergreen beauty that is quite popular at the moment but what struck me is that for the first time in my life, I saw the newborn photos and thought the name fit her perfectly. Up until this point, I couldn’t understand what parents meant when they said “I just looked at her and knew she was a __________.”
on November 12th, 2014 at 3:42 pm
The only celeb name I like is Esmeralda Amada.
on November 12th, 2014 at 3:44 pm
Well of course I love my daughter’s name, Noemi Xochitl. I also like her cousins’ names, Vivian Andrea and Jake Antonio.
on November 12th, 2014 at 3:51 pm
My cousin had a baby girl in July, named Naomi Isadora, and I think it’s blooming beautiful and definitely the best name I’ve heard this year!
on November 12th, 2014 at 4:36 pm
I also love that (two high-profile) someone(s) used Briar Rose!

I met a little girl about 8 mos old in playgroup this week named Cora. Just lovely. Suited her very well, too. The best-named boy in the group was Barrett.
My husband’s cousin had her second baby this week- Jamison David, brother to Jackson Lee. I find the name especially lovely because of how it flows with Jackson, and because of family ties. The father and paternal grandfathers are both James’. David is after the maternal grandfather, who passed away unexpectedly this year.
on November 12th, 2014 at 5:08 pm
My favorite name so far this year has been Greer for a girl. I also adore Avri for a girl (thanks to Robert Downey Jr.).
on November 12th, 2014 at 6:06 pm
A new couple who moved in across the street have the most beautiful little baby girl named Fransabelle Marguerite. What a fresh take on the French names!
on November 13th, 2014 at 12:52 am
I heard “Valentina” on the bus one day this year and thought that it was awesome.
on November 13th, 2014 at 10:06 am
A college friend of mine just named her daughter Penelope Jane (1 syllable last name). I love it! She had been referring to the baby as baby P during her pregnancy and I was so hoping it’d be Penelope, and I love it with the very un-frilly, classic middle of Jane. It has balance of both ornate/pomp (Penelope is a name with some pomp to it I’d say) and pared down/sleekness, plus the syllable count works well (even disregarding the middle name, Penelope is great with a 1 syllable last).
on November 13th, 2014 at 1:45 pm
Trevor for a boy!
Haley for a girl!

There’s been so many great names this year honestly it’s hard too choose!!
However the name that sticks in my mind is Hugo Henry (first name & surname combination) it’s the youngest sibling of a little girl Aria in my little brother’s class at school. She and her siblings is the best sibling set (name wise) I have ever heard. Her parents have a great taste in names – the names being Aria, Joseph, Levi, Isabella & Hugo – it’s delightful. Hugo is around 9mnths and Fiona (mother) is pregnant again I honestly cannot wait to hear the next name choice! Regarding Hugo Henry it’s ultimately such a cool combo a name that would suit a rock star.
on November 13th, 2014 at 10:22 pm
I was delighted to hear of a little one born in our town named Patrick. It is a lovely and solid choice..
on November 14th, 2014 at 8:43 am
IRL a baby Betty, my co-workers who aren’t name nerds commented on it being an “old lady name” but I think it’s great. I also love Eva Mendes’ choice of Esmerelda! What a perfect choice for them! I don’t know if Esme will ever really catch on in the US, but it would be great if it does.
on November 14th, 2014 at 1:14 pm
I second Betty. An old classmate named his daughter Elizabeth Sophia, nn Betty! I thought it was a classy choice.
I named my daughter Clarisse Bituin – so I happen to think that was a pretty great choice for the year too. 🙂
Some others from the year: Adelaide, Ruby Jane, Clark, Julian, Augustine “Gus” Basil, Grace Amy, Epifanio, Cinzia Anabella, and Simeon George.
on November 14th, 2014 at 8:43 pm
For a boy in Bondi, Sydney I heard ‘Van Ocean’ . It’s the 2nd Ocean I now know in the area!
on November 15th, 2014 at 3:29 pm
I love Apollo Bowie Flynn. Gwen Stefani’s boys all have lovely names.
on November 15th, 2014 at 4:45 pm
I’d have to say Clare. It has really grown on me.
on November 16th, 2014 at 4:43 am
I’ve known a few this year, Neve, Remi for girls and an Angus Banjo!
on November 18th, 2014 at 1:44 pm
I know Eva/Ava/Eve names are so overdone but I recently met a little girl (about 3 years old) named Eva Winter and I thought that was such a lovely combination!
on November 20th, 2014 at 4:42 pm
Thank you so much for using a photo of a child of color!
on November 23rd, 2014 at 8:57 pm
This year has brought some great names to my ears! The best I’ve heard world have to be Mordecai Fox, this just really stood out to me.. followed by the very old school pairing of Hugo Humphrey.. as for girls, I’ve heard the lovely pairing of Beatrice Imogen 🙂

Elizabeth Blair — They are going to call her *Bethsy*

My favorite is Lydia Claire!

My cousin had a son called Arthur Leonard this year, and his new cousin is named Isabelle Rose. Perhaps I’m biased, because my middle name is Rose, but I think it fits her wonderfully!
As for celebrities:
Shakira’s son, Sasha. I love Sasha on a boy!
Liv Tyler’s son, Sailor Gene. Sailor on a boy is so cute.
Vin Diesel’s daughter, Pauline Sinclair, whom he named after a deceased friend. So sweet.
Dylan Lauren’s son, Cooper Blue. (His twin sister is Kingsley Rainbow- not my style, but the colour middles are cute.)
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. I was blown away- what a great name.
Noah Wyle’s daughter, Frances Harper
Naya Rivera’s son, Josey Hollis.
My personal favourite celebrity baby name of 2015 was Elsie Otter, daughter of Zooey Deschanel. SO cute.
