I could see Zella getting super popular in like 10 years since "ella" and "Z" names are all the rage right now?? I like it a lot better than Bella and Stella etc

Zella is an awesome name! Spunky and spiky but also soft and feminine. Great meaning too.

"lacking nothing, one who knows the way"...love that meaning. If Zella wasn't a bad person in my family tree, then I would use it. It sounds so lovely...although it doesn't bother me personally it would bother my grandmother as Zella was her grandmother.

I'm so in love with this name, partly because I'm currently obsessed with singer Zella Day (her song 'Compass' is breathtaking). I had no idea that it had African origins, though. It could fit into the English language very easily, I think!

Zella was my grandmother's name and is now my daughter's name. Several other websites identify the origin as German - a diminutive of Marcella. Growing up I remember reading that it meant "warrior woman" or "angry woman".

My ex-in-law's family had a Zella in their ancestry...she was born in the early part of the 1900s, IIRC, & named Zella Bland. I have no idea where they got Zella from (they're from SW PA & definitely wouldn't have known about any African languages), but Bland was the last name of the doctor who delivered her. She actually went by Bland rather than Zella.

I love this name! Thinking of naming my baby that if it turns out to be a girl.

If you don't mind I would like to suggest a great present idea for your zella :) what if you ordered her a custom keychain with her beautiful name on it!

I am the mother of three kids...ages 16, 14, & 8. My youngest daughter's name (first & middle) is Zella Mae. She's named after her paternal grandmother who had passed away... I love the name and so does my daughter. It is unique and there have been many people who stop & ask where we found the name because they had never heard it before. The only thing my daughter ever complains about is that when looking for a keychain, necklace, or anything with personalized names on it, she can't find her name...but she has gotten used to it now. Hahaha
