Ty Origin and Meaning

The name Ty is a boy's name .

As Tyler has begun to recede, a number of parents, including the Wayne Gretzkys, have cut straight to the livelier short form.

One thing that may be holding the name back is the tarnished legacy of baseball hall of famer Ty Cobb, who gained a reputation for racist and violent behavior.

Rachelhaydenberk Says:

This is my cousin's name (spelled Tye) and it always feels like a complete name to me. I like it better than Tyler honestly. It worked from childhood to adulthood. Its simple but doesn't lack substance at all in my opinion.

EKC Says:

I have a grandfather who goes by Ty (unrelated to his given name). It seems to have served him well as a name all through his life. It is short, but I don't think it lacks substance, and no one ever seems to question it as a name.

LuckyT Says:

Well its done just fine for me so far in life. I don't think anyone is going to think twice when I'm introduced as Grandpa Ty. But that's just me

jordalini Says:

It has no substance to it.. Imagine a forty year old man named Ty, a grandparent named Ty, it just seems like a little kid nickname

LuckyT Says:

Why would it not be a name?

jordalini Says:

I no it is a nn for Tyler, but it doesn't have enough substance for a full name in my opinion. But my parents always use ty too, so I would see that as another drawback

Zoey_Artemisia Says:

My friend always says ty instead of thank you, so all I can hear when I see this is 'ty friend'. I'm pretty sure it's a nn for Tyler though.

jordalini Says:

I don't think is a name..
