I know a Rosella who goes by Rory, which works because it fits her crazy quirky personality much better.

No problem, it is a shame though. :/ But I have considered Roselle or even Rosetta instead. :)

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

Ah. I'm not Australian, so I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

SoDallas3 Says:

Unfortunately it would be. Rosella is one of the most common native birds in Australia and they populate a great deal of bushland. It's also a brand of condiments. I think Rosella is lovely, but it's too recognizable here, for the most part people are conservative; we really don't have many children being given bird names here either.

This is actually my name. Robyn Rosella I've actually had the nickname "birdy". Rosella was my Grandmothers name. I never even realized that Rosella was also a bird until a few years back. :)

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

But people are also named Robin, Wren, Lark, Finch and Sparrow, so surely it couldn't be too odd?

oliviamcdonald Says:

This is a bird in Australia, it would be like calling your child "Parrot"
