What nicknames could this have aside from Randy? In England 'randy' is a slang word for 'sexually aroused' so would definitely not be usable.

Sophiesimmons Says:

If nameberry editors could stop offering their biased opinions nobody asked for, that would be great.

sunset1301 Says:

Pretty sure you just perfectly described the bad guy from Disney's Monster's Inc who's name happens to be Randall...

FantasyandPrayer Says:

How can nameberry have so many examples of people called Randall but say the name has no future? I for one like it 😊

ambgs Says:

It never seems slimy or a villain to me but I think of Randy Rhoads who at least from what I read was one of the sweetest people ever and that would be the reason I'd name my kid Randall.

SCB Says:

Honestly I was looking at adoption profiles of waiting children in foster care and there was a 3 year old boy with the name Randy, which I'm pretty sure was short for Randal. I like this name. It is most certainly not slimey or sinister. This is a beautifully underrated boys name.

MonikerWanderer Says:

How does this name not have a future? It's perfectly fine. I'm surprised it's not in the top 1000, though.

Ziggy2112 Says:

I wouldn't say it has no future. We might have said the same about Linus five years ago.

AlexxisLynn Says:

It's okay.

I love this name, as a fn, mn, and surname. Great meaning, too!

headintheclouds Says:

I actually don't quite like this name- to me it sounds slimy and sinister. Someone named Randall would seem like a villain in a novel, all angles, sharp and stick-thin, plotting his next evil act. I have no idea where I got this impression, and I've met a few Randalls who are perfectly nice men (they've all been grown men), but this image persists in my head and I haven't been able to change it.

All that aside though, I recognize the irrationality of my opinion and objectively, Randall is a perfectly nice name, with a strong meaning (shield wolf is great!) and I think it's an unusual classic rather than a dated name, along the lines of Russell, Linus and Kenneth.
