I like literary names and names with nature meanings so I don't know how this wasn't on my radar before. But I had an epiphany or something cause this is now on the top of my list. Also because my SO and I met in a bookstore and he was buying 1984, which led to a great discussion and our first date 5 years ago now. I will admit it is a little stuffy but I am sold on using Wells as a nickname. It's modern, on trend in so many ways but not racing up the charts.... Perfection! Super sold on this. Also a W name would honor the SO's grandfather and his brother (both Wil's).
