Oakley Origin and Meaning

The name Oakley is a girl's name of English origin meaning "oak clearing".

The Annie Oakley connection makes this a bit more girl-appropriate. Oakley has the dubious honor of belonging to the 'brand' names baby club- after the Oakley sunglasses. This name made it into the Top 1000 for the first time in 2013, one of only four girl names starting with O to rank that high. We're definitely keeping an eye on this chart-climbing choice.

Such a beautiful nature inspired gender neutral name!
Oakley looks strong and masculine, Oakleigh is perfect for a strong girly feel!
Love this name for both!

Oakley sounds truly gender neutral to me, and i like this equally on both boy and girl, as I said also in the boy comment section. I enjoy the association with nature and oak trees for this name, as well as the pioneer woman outlaw badass image from Annie Oakley. Spelling-wise though, it does look slightly awkward to me written down on paper.

I knew a woman who named their little girl Oakley, I have always liked the name and think it's such a great overlooked name, and I would love to meet more Oakley's.

You could only use it as a middle name unless you wanted to be reminded of Annie Oakley forever
