I had a teacher named Muriel growing up. I had never heard of anyone else named this, but weirdly she looked like a Muriel.

Catherine D Says:

You're terrible Muriel :P

(Kudos to anyone who's watched Muriel's Wedding)

danirose01 Says:

Pretty much the twin sister of Murray.

heathergrey Says:

I think Muriel has the most beautiful graceful sound to it and totally think if someone decided to spell it 'Miurielle' or something it would make a huge comeback. I don't know if it will shake off its old lady vibe soon which makes me sad but if I met a baby with this name I'd be surprised and delighted by it.

Floris Says:

My sports teacher was called Muriel... She was suuper nice and also wrote some rather popular books on teaching and has a workout cd.
I think it could be lovely as a middle name? Clarissa Muriel something something? (I'm currently obsessed with the name Clarissa)

snowsbeloved Says:

Yuck, I can't see the appeal. I can't put my finger on why but it just sounds unattractive :/

peachysugarbuns Says:

I grew up with a girl with this name (now we're 31 years old). I never thought it was "old lady-ish", but for some reason my voice didn't sound good saying "Muriel". Muriel's mom had a very clear, bright voice and made the name sound lovely. Funny how that works.

luella_madison Says:

I used to think this name was so I love it. It's interesting how tastes change...

lesliemarion Says:

Muriel sounds soft and strong. I think it's beautiful.

When I hear the name Muriel, I remember the old lady from Courage the Cowardly Dog and the Evil Witch from Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. :-( I don't like it!
