Just to say, where I'm from, Mardi, spelt mardy, means grumpy, or irritable. Like a toddler temper tantrum. It's just what I immediately think of when hearing this word, and yes I know it is french. Just, you know, in the North of England, mardy does not have a particularly great meaning. See the song 'Mardy Bum' by the Arctic Monkeys, too.
