Impwood Says:

I would love to use this name when I have children. It is pronounced "LEE-luhss" and it's Scottish. I have never managed to work out whether it comes from the latin lilium for the flower, or from the same route as Lillian; from Elizabeth, "pledged to God". I prefer the latter. Anyhow, I love it, and the anglicised Lilias too.

I wouldn't say it added thorns to Lily; it's just as smooth and flowing. But I think the Lilias spelling looks nicer in print.
