Big fan of Torchwood here-- I like the name (and the character) Ianto a lot. One thing that occurred to me recently which I thought was a little weird is that Ianto is a diminutive of Ieuan/Ifan, Welsh forms of John, and Jack is an English diminutive of John, so Jack and Ianto have basically the same name in different languages.

this name really intrigued me on Torchwood. But the spelling would lead to constant mispronunciation.
I named my youngest son Ianto, we always have people asking (nicely) about his name but luckily we are Welsh and live in Wales so many have either heard of it or recognise it as a Welsh name so don't find it strange or Un-pronounceable, but it's not as common as similar names like Iestyn or Ieuan, although there is always the odd one who will think the "I" is an "L" if they see is written before hearing it! 😂 he also has 2 very "normal/generic" middle names (his grandads names) so if he dislikes his more uncommon name he can choose one of his more common ones instead :)
