This is a guilty pleasure for me. It has a beautiful sound, meaning ["dove-like"], and the association with lovely columbine flowers. But it is too closely tied to the school shooting. Maybe Columbina or Columba or even Columbia instead.

bethlena Says:

No. Use Sabine instead.

I was too young when the Columbine shooting happened to remember it - but it's still the first thing I think of when I read this name. I don't think many people will be able to get past the association. If you're living in the USA - I really wouldn't name a child this.

LavenderLullabies Says:

Completely agree! I adore this name.

MaryKathryn Says:

This name is a HUGE no-no.

Marcella Weiß Says:

Honestly, I really love this name. If I ever do have a daughter (unlikely, but maybe) I think I'll name her Columbine. By the time I'll be old enough to have kids the shooting will be far from recent, and Columbine flowers are a beautiful association for the name.
I don't think one thing should ruin a name. Though I am from Germany, so maybe it's just not as sensitive of a topic here as in places like America. I'm not trying to say the Columbine shooting wasn't tragic, by the way. I hope that's not what it sounds like I'm trying to say.
