Nameberry! How come Rhiannon gets to be "lovely" but Ceridwen is "less than poetic", just because it's less established outside of Wales? It's a name that sounds as if it has stepped straight out of a fairytale, which it pretty much has.

This name does not mean "beautiful as a poem."

I really like this name. I know several women in Wales with this name, though they often go by Ceri.

"...less-than-poetic name...." Seriously? This is beautiful! I think it really is lovely as a poem! I like it better as SER-id-wen though.

I always thought it was SARE-ah-dwin. And I also thought she was a mother goddess in Welsh mythology?

In my head the pronunciation "sayr-id-wen" sounds so much nicer to me. I agree with faithnamer, the hard c makes the name completely different.
