Amity

I'm starting to really like Amity, a very warm, happy name. A nice uncommon alternative to Felicity, Hope, etc.

At work we have a customer who gives us all nicknames, so he was calling me Amityville. (My name is Amity). After months of this, my youngest co-worker--she's 22--called me "Amitybelle" because she thought that's what he was calling me the whole time. She had no idea what Amityville was.

Never met anyone named Amity but I had a dream I met one! Now I kind of love it.

I love this name SO MUCH (even so much that if I ever moved to another state and ended up having children I wanted to name a daughter Amity Skye, and now I'm debating it as my renaming of myself), unfortunately, it's the name of the nearest small town between here and Salem, Oregon, and I can't shake that association. :'(

It is a really cute name, but I keep thinking of the horror films. However, I really am liking this name.

Mitty how bloody cute!! I will be naming my bubba Amity but I couldn't think of many nn I like only ammy ( pronounced Emmy) deffinetly like mitty better!

It has a nice meaning, but I can't get the Amityville Horror out of my head when I hear it.

I love the name Amity! I don't care if people think about Amityville Horror- it's beautiful and needs to be used more. I mean, come on, the meaning "friendship"? Too cute! I especially like the nn Mitty! It makes the "horrifying" name so much lighter!

I think this name flows beautifully as a middle name for most two-syllable, a-ending names...Nina Amity, Rosa Amity, Cora Amity, Laura Amity.

Has anyone read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, the girl in that is called Amity, a clever joke on miss Flynn's behalf considering that character is pure evil.

It is greatly improved with the Rose added, I must say.

Am I the only one thinking Jaws and not the horror house?

My daughter is Amitie Emilia. I changed the spelling of the first name to make it look more like a name and less like a place (Amity, RI /Amityville, NY) or a horror film (Amityville Horror). I am still asked if it's because of the movie--but to be fair I am a horror film addict. I wanted to give her a beautiful name no one else in her school would have. Done. Also, most people don't know the Greek meaning is "Shining Light". My daughter is definitely that in my life. Everyone I know and even strangers tried to talk me out of naming her Amitie. I'm so glad I didn't listen. She's complimented all the time on her beautiful, unique name.

Another remake?

I was actually named after Amityville Horror almost 25 years ago. I have that love/hate relationship with it. Most people ask if I was named after Jaws though, both not my type of movie.

Amity-Rose is very pretty, and definitely helps cut out the Amityville Horror reminder that I get when it's just Amity :)

I haven't finished Divergent yet, but I did LOVE the movie. Even if the movies are different, they will probably all be awesome. I have finished reading Insurgent. It irks me that they're planning toddo the Allegiance movie in two parts.

The books are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than the movie, and i love the movie to death.

Amity is one of my guilty pleasure names. I'd use it on a character, but most likely not on my little girl.

There's no way i would think about anything other than the Amityville Horrors. If you're unfamiliar, use Google, then promptly search for another name.

Amity is a cool name. I have never even heard of Amityville Horror. This name also makes me think of Divergent. Awesome, I can't wait to see Insurgent next year.

I love the name Amity. It's a great middle name I think :) So hard to pair with other names though!

I hope it flops or something...why remake what's already been done...again and again and again? I'm glad I like Amity enough to turn my head away from Amityville.

I think Amity has such a sweet sound and meaning...I can only hope that Amityville Horror fades away as the years go by.
