Macie
Macie Origin and Meaning
Macie is one variation that has become more popular than the original Macy, perhaps thanks to its resemblance to the stylish Maisie. While Macie is usually pronounced to rhyme with lacy while Maisie sounds more like hazy, there is undoubtedly some overlap.
Macy and co. rose to fame back in the 90s, thanks to singer Macy Gray and the character Macy Alexander in the soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful. As often happens with popular choices, the original was joined in the charts by a host of spelling alternatives, Macie included. Now, it is the preferred option in the States and the UK.
Derived from an English surname, itself borrowed from several towns in France, Macy and co. have been in use longer than you might think. Given to a small group of girls (and a smaller handful of boys) most years since the late 1800s, it might also be used as a variation on nickname Maisy or even a nickname to Thomasine.
