Macklin

Borrowed from several Scottish surnames Macklin feels more wearable as a first name: a cool and current way to nickname Mack.

If you view Macklin as a variation of MacLean or MacLaine, it is a name made up of three elements: mac, gilla, and Eoin, meaning "son of", "the servant", and "God is gracious" respectively. The meaning is sometimes then interpreted as 'son of the servant of Saint John", though more literally, it would be "son of the servant of Eoin".

If you view it as a variation of the surname MacLaughlin however, it means "son of Lachlann", or, more poetically, "son of the Vikings" or "son of the land of the lakes".

Actors Matt Cohen and Mandy Musgrave have a son called Macklin, born in 2015. This did lead to a rise in the number of babies given the name in 2016.
