Norse mythology names

Some names of Norse gods and goddesses, or names that just appear in Norse mythology. Most of them I would use for middle names since they're kinda obscure. I've mostly written the Swedish forms. Jättefina allihopa i alla fall
  1. Tyr
    • Origin:

Norse, God of law and heroic victory
    • Description:

Tyr is a very early embodiment of a Norse god, typically thought to guide the law, justice, war and victory.
  2. Njord
    • Origin:

      Scandinavian
    • Meaning:

      "north"
    • Description:

Pronounced to rhyme with fjord, the Norse god of the sea's name, this would make an unorthodox choice for sea-lovers and fishermen.
  3. Tor
    • Origin:

Norwegian and Swedish variation of Thor, Hebrew, English
    • Meaning:

"thunder; turtledove; victor; hill, rocky peak"
    • Description:

An interesting and attractive multicultural choice, Tor packs a lot in to three letters. It may be used as a modern form of Þórr (Thor) , the name of the Norse thunder god or as a short form of Victor/Viktor and Hector, giving it the meaning "conqueror, victor" or "holding fast".

As a Hebrew name, it means "turtle-dove" and is a favorite choice for babies born in spring, when turtledoves arrive, especially as a middle, while as an English word name, it may refer to a rocky peak or hill, as in the Glastonbury Tor.
  4. Eir
    • Origin:

      Norse
    • Meaning:

      "peacefulness, mercy"
    • Description:

So airy, it's almost not there.
  5. Oden
    • Origin:

      Swedish variation of Óðinn
    • Meaning:

      "god of frenzy; poetic fury"
    • Description:

Oden is the Swedish form of Óðinn — or Odin, if you anglicize it — the highest of the gods in Norse mythology. Ruling over war, wisdom, art, death, law and culture, his name means "inspiration, frenzy, and fury" and ultimately stems from the Proto-Germanic Wōðanaz.
  6. Idun
    • Origin:

      Swedish, Norse
    • Meaning:

      "ever young"
    • Description:

Idun is a modern Swedish transcription of Iðunn, the Norse goddess of apples, fertility, and youth. She was responsible for guarding and keeping the apples from which the gods ate to renew their youth.
  7. Balder
    • Fjorgyn
      • Hel
        • Hermod
          • Njorun
            • Ran
