About Aubry
Aubry is a feminine name with Germanic roots, derived from the ancient name Alberic, meaning 'elf ruler' or 'fair ruler.' It represents a variant spelling of the more common Aubrey, which has shifted from primarily masculine usage in medieval times to predominantly feminine in modern America. This particular spelling offers a slight distinction while maintaining the name's melodic quality. Aubry gained momentum in the late 20th century as parents sought names with both historical depth and contemporary appeal. The name carries an elegant, somewhat ethereal quality with its soft sounds and mythological connections, while its unusual spelling provides individuality without straying too far from familiarity.
Aubry for boys
Aubry is a variant spelling of Aubrey, a name with Germanic origins meaning 'elf ruler' or 'magical being.' Historically, it was a masculine name derived from the Germanic elements 'alb' (elf) and 'ric' (power, ruler). In modern usage, particularly in the United States, Aubrey has become predominantly feminine, with Aubry following this trend despite being listed here as masculine. This spelling variation offers a slightly different visual appearance while maintaining the same pronunciation. Aubry has a sophisticated sound with historical depth, yet feels contemporary. While less common than the standard Aubrey spelling, it provides a subtle distinction for those seeking something slightly different. The name's connection to magical beings gives it a whimsical quality, while its historical use as a noble name lends it strength and dignity.
Pronounced AW-bree.
