Word Names in the Top 1000
Words have always been chosen as names for children. Some are virtues, some are occupations, some are pretty flowers or colors, and some are actions or structures. And no matter what reason parents have for choosing a word name, there should be consideration for the thing the word represents before placing the label on a baby.
So, what are the most popular word names? I have gone through the Top 1000 and found 63 girl and 58 boy word names in the 2012 list, and a few of those are for both genders. Varied spellings from the actual word are not included (i.e. Scarlet is a word, not Scarlett), but I’ve included words that may be various spellings of actual names (i.e. Conner for Conor). Here is the list with their 2012 ranks:
What is your favorite word name?

I am so glad that Wren isn’t on that list.

I am really confused/fascinated by Sincere coming in at the 700s for boys. What is the demographic of people naming their sons Sincere? Is it an African American choice? A southern choice? Maybe an immigrant group? (I know some Nigerian and Ugandan Christians are fond of almost Puritan-esque word and virtue names like Given, Blessed, etc. Sincere seems to fit here). I am puzzled and very curious to know more. Anyone have any ideas?
I am also stunned that Kale is in the 700s. Do people not think of the vegetable? Is there another reference I’m not getting?
None of the girl word names surprise me as much as Kale or Sincere. Temperance’s popularity would except I think I heard somewhere that there is a Temperance character on a popular TV show (one of the vampire ones?) so I guess that makes sense.

@RosieRose Temperance is from the show “Bones.” I can’t answer your other questions though. I do think Sincere is neat sounding, but I’d probably not use it. As for Kale, it’s probably from the “K” obsession when using unique name spellings. There is a name Cael, which I almost used for my son if it weren’t for a co-worker of my husband.
