What Nameberry names pop for you?
There’s a thread on our forums, started by steampunkleo, under the heading ‘Names on Nameberry that make you go WOW!’ which we thought deserved to be served out to a wider audience.
So, is there a single name that maybe you had never heard before, which just jumped off the site for you and even made it onto your own personal list or signature?
Or a stunning twin or other sibset that absolutely knocked you out?
Or a magical first and middle combo that you hadn’t ever thought of putting together but which works perfectly for you?
Where do you find your greatest NB inspirations–in fellow berries’ posted ideas, in their signatures, or in the monthly roundup of actual babyberry names?
We want to know your absolute all-time faves.
You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed.

Rylan for a girl! I LOVE it for a girl!

Atlas. I find many of the other names I love in literature or by word of mouth, but this one was off nameberry. I believe I heard it in a post, but not sure which one.

Garbo is my brand new love.

I am from a rural area, so I only heard really common names, or are really scary name mash ups. I Found the name Freya, and LOVED it, turns out it was a favorite for my SO to from his video games.

The main one that springs to mind is Azula, the name of truenature’s daughter as seen in her signature. I love everything about it – the name, the combination (Azula Rosemary!) and also her fabulously named sister, Indira Coral.

I recently stumbled across the name Fable and I was mesmerized. It would make an interesting middle name for a boy or a girl. It just brought up such an image in my head of fairy tales and story books. I love it! I also found Donovan and I just flipped out. Its such a cool Irish boys name. 🙂
on February 18th, 2015 at 2:59 am
For girls: Tove. It ticks several of my boxes. It’s fun, easy to pronounce, spunky, and combines with my last name. Which is no easy feat.
For boys: something entirely different. Balthazar. It sounds wonderful, dashing, grown-up. And it has a great nn; Bas.

Fiancee and I have both fell in love with Donavan. We are not pregnant, nor are we TTC but we have already agreed that it will the name of our first son. It is a perfect combo of our first names and it just fits! I refuse to post my girl choices, as they change very often

Girls: Rhiannon- I thought this was a misspelling of Rhianna.
Talbot- I know that this is a boys name, but I think it would be super unusual and cute on a boy.
Fleur- It sounds so french! I technically found this in HP, but….
Ingrid- sounds so strong.
Angelica- an alternative to Angelina or the 80’sesque Angela
Oliver- I thought that this was total upper crust, but I have seen the light.
Lachlan- Nameberry has completely opened my eyes to Irish names.
Howard- I love the nickname Howie.
Billy- as a nickname to William

I tend to be on the safer side of names. Sometimes I think, “wow” how could you name a kid that! I don’t think nameberry has introduced me to any favorites but it has shown new light on them. My husband says I need to stop listing them on here because then other people will use them…haha. The first two are my favs and the last two are ones my husband and three year old added 🙂
on February 18th, 2015 at 9:36 am
My two favorites that I’ve seen over the years are:
Francine is such a prominent name in my family and so these are amazing to me!!!
on February 18th, 2015 at 9:46 am
Sorry, couldn’t resist posting for a second time. Loving Gila because it looks to me like a smoosh of Gigi and Lola. Loving the meaning as-well and also the variation Gili.
on February 18th, 2015 at 10:31 am
Oh yeah, and Eilidh!

Some of my new favorites that I have discovered on NB are:
Sailor/ Scout- guilty pleasure

Eden- for a girl. I had never even gave it a thought until I popped up on Nameberry. I wish I would have discovered it when I was picking a name for my daughter. It’s definitely on my list if another little girl is in my future.
Macon- I know, I know…it sounds like Bacon. I can’t help it. On my list for a boy if ever I have one, husband doesn’t like it but oh well. I think with all the Masons these days it’s a breath of fresh air!
on February 18th, 2015 at 11:59 am
I came across Annora on Nameberry, and I have to say I really love it.
on February 18th, 2015 at 12:48 pm
I had heard of Rowan before Nameberry, but I never gave it a second glance until I saw it a few times in various posts. Now, I totally want a little boy named Rowan!
Others include: Edmund, Cecily, Edie, Agnes, Constance, Mildred, and Rafferty.

Ruby Juliet Noa from a 2013 birth announcement, how freaking stunning is it!
Daphne Olga Amelie jumped out at me from a British birth announcement blog post years ago. Very intriguing.
Recently, Lux Cecelia and Althea Lake.
Berries get it so right!
on February 18th, 2015 at 3:10 pm
Nico, Percy, Nova, Rose and Piper
on February 18th, 2015 at 3:13 pm
A while ago I ran into Belphoebe and paired it with the middle name Paige. Oh my goodness, I still love it!
There was an announcement for a Valo June Reverie that absolutely stunned me. Wow.
And need I mention Varan? I made it a combo: Varan March Alexander. Ahh, it’s irresistible!
on February 18th, 2015 at 3:22 pm
Oh, and there was a mention of a possi ble little Iris Vespertine. Isn’t that just gorgeous?
on February 18th, 2015 at 3:37 pm
I didn’t spot this name, but my husband did: Gerard. I had never considered it before, though I knew about it. The nameberry description lists it as positivley grandpa-ish… but I took it straight to the forums where it has gotten some great positive feedback! DH is thrilled – and it is currently choice #1 if we have a boy. (this also led me to research the name Renard as a viable alternative!).
Secondly, I also first took notice of Beatriz as a variant on Beatrice via NB. I simply adore this option!
on February 18th, 2015 at 5:03 pm
@lawsonhaley, you made my day! I’m so happy someone likes my combos 🙂
Most of mine have been listed but one that hasn’t is @stephykneejo’s girls, Maeby Alana and Saela Eliza. Saela is now in my signature and I adore Maeby as a possible nickname for Maeve.
on February 18th, 2015 at 6:29 pm
I was looking at lists the other day (I think the list of literary names?) and the name Arabella popped up. For some reason, the combination Arabella Elise jumped into my mind, though I had never considered those names together before. Currently my absolute favorite option for a girl! (Not pregnant, just thinking about the future…. never can be too prepared.)
on February 18th, 2015 at 6:44 pm
I discovered Kerensa, Arianwen, and Jenifry through Nameberry and I just love them.
on February 18th, 2015 at 6:58 pm
From the database I’m happy I discovered Belén!
on February 18th, 2015 at 7:11 pm
We found Jericho, loved it, and made it our son’s middle name!
on February 18th, 2015 at 9:39 pm
Rupert and Hugo. I actually have decided Rupert will be one of those up and coming names…(Ha yet to be re-discovered). It is the top contender for my boy in April-Hugo a very close second! 🙂
on February 18th, 2015 at 9:50 pm
my fiance actually found Grier on the Nameberry. I think it reminds him of the professor who supervised his thesis.
I stumbled across Adair in the forum and fell head over heals for it!!
on February 18th, 2015 at 10:48 pm
@lawsonhaley, thank you so much! I love your taste in names as well.
These are some of the stunning names I have seen on Nameberry
Amelie Winter Rose
Adelaide Plum and George Everett
Louisa Margaret and Adelaide Charlotte
Henry Atlas and Margot Story
William Balthazar and Catherine Ophelia
Georgiana Florence Eve
and so many others…

Romilly is beautiful but I’d never even heard of it before Nameberry.
on February 19th, 2015 at 7:06 am
NB got me onto girls names ending in -wen. Eg Branwen, Elowen, Tanwen, Arwen, Rhonwen. I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to use them in real life, but they have a beautiful Lord of the Rings heroine feel to them. Irresistible.
I recently came across Andreas on here, which I’d never heard of before but is a great alternative to Andrew with the nickname Andre or even Dre! I love it.
My SO loves Bodhi for a boy or girl, which I found on here. It’s now SO’s fave.
Truman is a name I never would have expected to like, along with Tristan, but NB has changed that too
on February 19th, 2015 at 8:07 am
Annika 🙂 I adore it
on February 19th, 2015 at 3:57 pm
This list has made me love so many new names I’ve never even heard of! Some of the combination other people come up with are so beautiful! @marlemama has kids named Henry Atlas and Margot Story, which are beautiful! Indira Coral and Azula Rosemary are someone’s kids, and their names are perfect! @adelina_sophia has beautiful combos such as Adelina Sophia, Magdalena Elisabeth, Isla Aveline, Elysia Rose, Ophelia Maeve, Alexander George, and Harry Lysander. @truenature is planning names and came up with Atlas Erickson Fox, which is so cool, and I also like her idea of Charlize Luna! @Opheliaflora has THE BEST combos! My favorites of hers are Ophelia Rosalind Clara (nn Elphie, which is so cute!), Elliot Caspian Victor (nn Ottie, also adorable), Aurora Fleur Juliet (nn Flora, its so pretty), and Penelope Alice Octavia. Someone was going to name their daughter Calla Firefly, and I remember answering a question about it on a thread asking for opinions, and I just thought it was magical. @jennam’s kids are Eloise Pearl and Cordelia June, which are so pretty and vintage. She was considering so many beautiful combos for her third, I don’t know what she chose, but my favorites were Athena Maeve, Juliette Iris, Margot Beatrix, Vera Cecily, and Vivienne Beatrice. @larkub101 was going to name her daughter Bellamy Juniper Violet, which is so pretty. Sequoia Orion was so unique, maybe it was from @moonkai?
There were also some great birth announcements! Althea Lake, Audrey Vivienne, Evelyn Lake, Juliet Drew Marie, twins Kitty Rebekah and Sadie Heather, Lucia Linnea Pearl, Lux Cecelia, Maven Eileen, Ramona Violet, Rosie Emilia, Ruby Magnolia, and Willow Marylee were all on the blog post Babyberry Arrivals of January, and they’re beautiful! Nameberry has so many beautiful names, and people just come and combine them beautifully!

There’s a lot of names, especially some of the old fashioned names, that I just never would have considered, like Arthur or Wilfred or Edith. There’s also names like Coralie and Plum that are so sweet, as well as a slew of gp’s like Atlas and Persephone.
I also agree that @Opheliaflora has stellar combos! Flora for Aurora Fleur Juliet is a killer nickname!!!

There aren’t very many names that I haven’t already seen that make me go “wow”.
Solenne and Elysande are the only ones I can think of from here.
on February 20th, 2015 at 4:16 pm
I found the names Phoenix, Auden, Olive and Maisyn on here and I love them!!
on February 21st, 2015 at 10:26 am
There is a nameberry with Catherine Ophelia as one of her names, which is a really satisfying name and I might well steal it!
I came across Corisande on nameberry, it is not a name I would ever use but it so very pretty I like to turn it over and play with it, similarly I have been having a recent crush on Shoshana, I would probably never use it but I am enjoying pretending I might! I am trying to find a second middle for a combo starting Rose Lark. Or really any combo for Rose as a first name.
My favourite recent names have been in real life – someone at the dentist’s surgery was called Miss Dorothy Bear, we just had a misdirected parcel come to our house for a Miss Maude Roxby.
