Name Your Nameberry Ticker Family!

Quick!

Look up at the top of this page at the Nameberry Ticker. See it there, above the striped line — the thing that moves from left to right, broadcasting which names people are searching on Nameberry right that very moment?

(If you’re reading this on a phone, sorry, you’re not going to be able to see it.  But rush to your nearest computer and check it out right away!!)

We sometimes get mesmerized by the Nameberry Ticker. Sometimes we think: What if we had to choose all our children’s names from the 12 or 14 names that show up on the ticker at any one moment? Could we do it. and what would we choose?

Often, the ticker yields surprisingly compatible choices. A few minutes ago, for instance, I put together a little family of son Blaze and daughters Elodie and Lyra. I could live with that. And now, I’m intrigued by the possibility of sons Lafe and Reynolds along with daughters Tilda and Carmelita.

But what about you? We challenge you to look at the ticker right this very minute and choose your children’s names from the group that’s passing by. You can pick as few as one or as many as a dozen, but you have to like them well enough to really plausibly live with them.

As always, bonus points for telling us your reasons: similar vintage, style, rhythm? Or just the most compatible choices up there at the moment?

Okay, go!

Son Jasper and daughter Josephine. I’ve never been much for naming siblings starting with same letter, but these sound so good together. There’s something that sounds so Gone With the Wind southern to me. I could totally live with these names for my children.

DottiPanda Says:

June 19th, 2014 at 5:26 am

Felix or Frederick and Eloise

Actually I have Frederick on my list and love Felix too (although my husband vetoed it as a “cat’s name”). Eloise fits stylistically. Although it’s not a favourite of mine, I could live with it.

Some really strange choices for mine, as well as almost all girls, so here’s mine:

Sons: Edward (Teddy) and Daniel (Danny)

Daughters: Eleanor (I prefer the Elinor spelling), Oriana, Vivian, and Wilhelmina — I don’t know why, I don’t usually like this name, but this morning it appealed to me. Nell, Oriana, Vivian, and Mina.

Vivian was in pink — but the actual only Vivian I ever knew was a wonderful guy from Edinburgh.

Wyatt, Georgina, Penelope and Lola. They all have a similar feel to them and all actually names I’ve considered using.

Scarlett, Hazel, and Aurora, as they are all modern and feminine sounding, and have a sort of subtle nature-vibe to me, as well as all representing colors (to me, Aurora represents the pretty green-blue of the Aurora Borealis). I really like those, actually!

…oh, quite beautiful. let’s do this again, it’s fun!

Jasper, Stellan, Tobias, Arabella, Melisande & Valentina.
(if the girls names are shortened to Bella, Lissy and Val it sounds better together).

Ah, I saw Ruby right when I looked, I absolutely adore this name, though I don’t know exactly why. So my name ticker family is daughter Ruby.

Daughters Harlow and Ruby and son Grayson! I have a bit of a soft spot for all three of those.

I had to keep reloading the page for it to let me comment, so I have a few ticker families.

One is Cassie (f), Beauregard (m), Imogen (f), and Juno (f).

The next was Milo (m), Sacha (f), and Kai (b). I prefer the spelling Sasha though.

The last one was Theodore (m), Morgan (f), Gus (m), Snow (f), Sami (f), and Graham (m). I also prefer the spelling Sammy over Sami.

The first sibset is my favorite.
