I think the moon thing makes it an even more intriguing choice.

Is it pronounced "oom-bree-el" or "uhm-bree-el"?

I feel like the Moon thing is a little obscure. And considering only a child would make that joke and children probably wouldn't know that, I can't see it being a problem.

I can't handle this name. I immediately see "umbrella" or "umbilical cord."

I really, really, really, really want to like this name! Mostly because the meaning is really cool for a character. I just can't seem to get into it.

I like the sound of this name and my mom is obsessed with it. Every time one of us has been pregnant, it is the first name she suggests. Turns out, Umbriel is a moon that orbits Uranus. Waaaaaay to easy to make a humiliating, daily joke.

A very pretty name in my opinion. Much better than Brielle, (ugh!) and a nice mix between Umbria and Gabrielle. At least it's not Umbriella

I like it! Seriously, there will be no more jokes than a child name Summer, Star, or April. I new a few kids with unusual names, and it was the child named Harry who teased more often. Kids can be mean and make a name out of anything. I knew one girl called libby the fatty watty and her name was Liberty. I even read a post on here about women wanting to name a daughter timber but was scared that she would be a klutz.. Sometimes our fears out weigh the actuality that we will face.

I would advise against naming your child this.
