Tolliver Origin and Meaning

The name Tolliver is a boy's name of English origin meaning "metalworker".

If you're tired of Oliver, you might consider this energetic three-syllable surname instead, so you could have a little Tolly instead of an Ollie.

Tolliver is a not-too-obvious occupational Scottish surname dating back to the time of armor makers. Heard much more often as a surname, there have been Tollivers in soap operas like General Hospital and Cy Tolliver was a character on Deadwood; in real life, Melba Tolliver is a barrier-breaking African-American TV journalist.

If he's 5'10", he's just Oliver, but if he's 4'10", he's Smalliver, and if he's 6'10", he's Tolliver.

Ohhh this is great! I was talking to my fiance about metal names as we are metalheads and we'd like to incorperate that in a name. It's unique but phonetically it's comfortable for western people.

lizway Says:

Oh, this is cute! Cute way to have a little Oliver without having to deal with the popularity.

katinka Says:

I love the nickname Tolly, and though Bartholomew is my favourite way to get there, this is a jaunty, unusual option which avoids the danger of ending up with a Bart :/

headintheclouds Says:

This is one of the surname names I really like! Tolliver sounds like the best of wonderful classic Oliver and adventurous swashbuckling Gulliver. I like the whole sound and look/spelling of Tolliver, and the nickname Tolly just seems really cute when I picture it. Tolliver would be a great and more unusual alternative to -er ending surname names.

mabespark Says:

My uncle calls my brother Oliver this as a nickname because he is tall. Before, he was called Smalliver. That is all that I can think of when I hear this name.
