This is my sister's name, and we actually knew a couple of others growing up (clearly there were a fair few Scottish/Irish migrant families). I've always thought it was a beautiful name. My sister has had to field quite a few "Shawnas" in her life, but it's an easy correction. No long-term problems with the name.

I had never heard of this name until a few days ago, when a link to a UK Daily Mail columnist started showing up all over FB. The columnist's name is Shona. From her articles, it doesn't seem like she's a very nice/good person, & now unfortunately my perception of the name is colored by that.

I prefer the Seonaid spelling but outside of Scotland the Shona spelling is a lot more straight forward, it is a very pretty and classy name.
