Modesty

Please don't name your daughter this. Way too much baggage.

I like it. Obviously you wouldn't always have to use the full name, possible nicknames include Mod, Dessie, Desa, or Mo.

I love this name, so pretty, and the virtue in question is often underrated nowadays. The problem with many of these names is that they kind of put pressure on kids, to live up to their names. There could also be some bullying issues, relating to the names. In terms of character names in fiction, there is the risk of them being a little too appropriate. I love Daphne du Maurier, but Patience for Mary's long-suffering aunt in "Jamaica Inn" - that character name is just too much.

Just think how awkward it would be yelling for your kid.

Sorry I got the wrong impression. It sounded rather as if you were degrading the Amish, or making it sound as if they were "backward" or something of the kind.

I'm saying that you're one of those three things if you'd name a kid Modesty. I'm not 'comparing' being Amish to being sadistic or joking. You're either Amish and rural with Modesty being a commonplace name, or you're mainstream and possibly sadistic and/or joking.

You're either joking, sadistic, or Amish if you are considering naming your daughter Modesty.

I prefer Honesty, but this isn't bad.

I went to school with a Modesty. She was quite the opposite.
