Gender: M Origin of Charley: Short form of Charles

Charley is, at this point, an old-fashioned spelling for the most popular short form of Charles, better known these days as Charlie. But Charley is a classic and relates more directly to Charles and is also more decidedly masculine. If you're considering naming your son Charles and calling him Charley, you might want to use this spelling (though many will spell it Charlie no matter what you or he does).
