Brooklyn Origin and Meaning

The name Brooklyn is a boy's name of English, American origin meaning "marshland".

The most famous male bearer of this name is the eldest child of David and Victoria Beckham, now a successful model and photographer in his own right. Brooks would be an on-trend short form.

Yes! Exactly my thoughts

I loved this name ever since Victoria and David Beckham named their first son Brooklyn. Even before i associated it with their son, i have always thought this name sounded very tough and masculine. Strong like the place in New York itself. I don't think it is a girls name at all. I think Brooke is a girl's name and Brooklyn is a boy's name. I like Brock as a short nickname for Brooklyn. I am recently becoming a big fan of City and Place names for babies and this is one of my favourite place names for a boy. So cool and Edgy for a boy.

I like it.
Oh lord I like boy names on girls and girls names on boys what has happened to me.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see this is pretty (relatively) popular for boys in England but I don't see it anywhere on the girls side. Hope restored! 😈 Team Boys Named Brooklyn!

edit: oh wait I looked again and there are a few girls over there named Brooklyn but it's still more popular for boys over there so my case is rested 💜

Ugh I just love this so much. Brooklyn just keeps that edginess when used on guys!

AldabellaxWulfe Says:

The first Brooklyn I ever knew was the male character from the old Disney cartoon Gargoyles. For a boy, it comes across as a bit eccentric, but still quite elegant and suave. For a girl... I honestly hate it. We've already got way too many cutesy, trendy, kind of tacky and sticky-sweet modern, made up, misspelled names as it is, so Brooklyn just sort of gets lost in the mess of it all. No offense to anyone who thinks differently, I just think it has more character, depth and overall appeal when placed on a boy.

I really love this for a boy tbh. I think it's dope. I'm thinking of using it for a middle if I don't use it for a first.

To the same people who defend Evelyn for a boy!

I think Brooklyn Beckham makes it handsome to be honest!

I think the Beckhams gave their first born this name because he was conceived in Brooklyn, but still... This is a girls name.
