Sasha is actually a nn for Alexander/Alexandra or in Russia Aleksandr/Aleksandra. Vanya is a nn for Ivan. Idt there ARE any Russian unisex names except nn
e.g. Sasha, Shura, Sashulka, Sashenka, Shurochka etc.

The sad thing about America is that because most Russian male names or nicknames sound "feminine" people completely disrespect Russian culture. If a Russian every heard a girl named Vanya they'd probably ask why the parents would do that to the poor girl. From what I know of Russian, they're pretty strict about the names. There are very few unisex names, e.g. Sasha has only recently been accepted for girls

This is a boy name. I'm all for gender-neutral names, but this one doesn't even come up for boys...

This is a Russian male name, a variant transcription of Алексей (usually rendered Alexei). I don't recommend it for a girl any more than I'd recommend Vladimir or Aleksandr for a girl. Also, in Russian it's pronounced ah-lyek-syay. If you want Alex-ee, and a name that isn't masculine, try Alexie.

Too Russian.

Why not pick a different Alex name for a girl? I agree, it may sound girl but I'm fairly sure Aleksey (normally with an X) is more of a boy name. It isn't used much here for boys, though.
