About Eleusine

Eleusine is the botanical name of genus of grasses found across Africa and Asia, also known as goosegrass. It also has a lovely soft sound, similar to the likes of Eloise, Elowen, and Lusine.

The name of the genus ultimately comes from a Greek place, known as Eleusis in ancient times (and Elefsina today), where initiations were held from the cult of Demeter and Persephone, also known as the Eleusinian Mysteries. Eleusis is believed by some to have derived from the name Eileithyia, the Greek goddess of childbirth, but this is not confirmed.

Pronounced EL-oo-zeen.

Editor's take: The name Eleusine is a girl's name.
