- Gordy Ainsleigh, ran 100 miles in the Western States Trail Ride (Tevis Cup), a horse race in California. Because of his feat more people wanted to try it, so we now have the Western States Endurance Run which has kicked off all of the 100 mile races that go on now, and inspired the tradition of winning a belt buckle for being a 100 mile race finisher.
