Similar in sound to Anya and Enya, Áine is a mythical Irish choice, associated with the goddess of summer, wealth, beauty, love, and fertility. It is a familiar choice in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where it flits in and out of the Top 100, while in England and Wales, it was a Top 1000 choice back in the 2000s.

Éimhear (also sometimes written as Éimear or Anglicized as Emer) is a feminine name of Irish Gaelic origin. In Irish mythology, Éimhear was the wife of the legendary hero Cú Chulainn and was renowned for her beauty, wisdom, and fierce spirit. The name is believed to derive from elements meaning 'swift' or 'ready,' reflecting qualities of alertness and quick-wittedness. The accent over the 'E' (called a fada in Irish) elongates the vowel sound. While traditional in Ireland, Éimhear remains relatively rare internationally, though interest in authentic Irish names has increased globally. The name combines ancient heritage with a melodic pronunciation, appealing to parents seeking a name with strong cultural roots and feminine strength.

In Greek mythology, Evadne was the daughter of Poseidon. Evadne also appears in literature (Mary Shelley's "The Last Man") and has a pop culture reference as the cousin of Wonder Woman. A more unusual alternative to other Greek "-ee" names like Ariadne, Daphne and Penelope. The trendy "Ev" sound makes this a lovely choice in a world of Evelyns, Evangelines and Everlys.

The origins of Senara, the name of a Cornish saint who is patron of the village of Zennor, are not so straightforward. Some say she was the same person as Azenor, a legendary Breton princess whose mother-in-law cast her out to sea in a trunk. Other stories say she was a mermaid turned Christian.

Wherever she came from, Senara is that rarest of names: lovely, straightforward, and unusual all at the same time. Since it may be related to Helen or Eleanor, it can be used as an honorific for one of those names -- though grandma Helen may understandably think it's a stretch.

Senara

One way to spin grandma Helen or Ellen's name off the beaten track. The legendary Azenor was a tragic 6th century Breton princess who was mother to a saint. This personage also may be known as Senara.
