Sour or sweet? Enough like Lennon, Leonard, and Clement to work, or best left in the fruit basket? That's up to you to decide, but Lemon has been appearing in the US charts for boys since the 1880s.

Currently more popular for girls (given to 50 in 2021, and 29 in a more recent year), Lemon has been out of the charts for boys since the 90s, but that's not to say it won't ever return, given the interest in wild word names in recent years.

One thing to bear in mind is that Lemon is sometimes used as a slang term with a couple of meanings. It may refer to: a defective and faulty car or gadget; to an unhelpful person who won't take action (as in, standing there like a lemon); and, in a more niche (and perhaps slightly outdated?) way, for explicit content in fanfiction. Make of that what you will.

Lemuel, Lemoine, and Lonan might be similar sounding options,

Charming French endearment, first used as a name by Goethe, that now makes an appealing choice -- though the proper feminine form is Mignonne. Note, though, that this is not actually used as a name in France, where Manon would be the closest choice.
Mignon is the leading character, a young Italian dancer, in Goethe's novel Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, upon which an eponymous opera was based. Mignon Eberhart was a popular American mystery writer.
The name is also associated with the flower name Mignonette.

The 6th century Irish saint Mirin emigrated to Scotland and now is the patron saint of both the Glasgow suburb of Paisley and the game of football.

Mirren is one modern spelling; the Cornish Merryn, best known as the name of the seacoast town St. Merryn, is also related. In all its forms, one of the most classic Scottish names for girls.

Less appealing than some other Irish surnames, such as Malone and Sullivan, unless used as a tribute to jazz musician Gerry. There could be some Mulligan stew teasing.

Aromatic spice used in cooking, and a cute route to Meg, Nutmeg is predominantly used on pets rather than humans.

An unlikely choice, but in this era of Apple, Navy, Golden, and Mint, you never know. In fact, Orange does have some historical grounding as a feminine name, appearing in Medieval times as Orange, Orenge, and Orengia, possibly after the French place name, which was named for a Celtic water god, Arausio, meaning "cheek, temple".

The fruit and color name comes from a totally different, Sanskrit origin however, and has only ever appeared in the US stats for girls on three occasions, back in the early 20th century.

If you do want an orange feeling girl name, you could consider Clementine, Alani, Ginger, Honey, Marigold, Saffron, or Goldie instead.

A red spice made from dried bell peppers. As a name, notable bearers include Danish actress Paprika Steen (born Kirsteen), and Paprika from the children's TV show Blue's Clues

Pear is a new entry to the growing list of fruit names, which includes the charming Plum, Clementine, and Apple. Its one, not inconsiderable drawback is its similarity to "pair," which is sure to lead to a lifetime of wearisome quips.

Pita is a feminine name with diverse cultural origins. In Greek, it means 'rock' or 'stone,' symbolizing strength and stability. In Spanish-speaking countries, it often serves as a nickname for names like 'Guadalupe' or 'Piedad.' The name also exists in Polynesian cultures where it may have different meanings. While relatively uncommon as a given name in the United States and Europe, Pita enjoys modest usage in Hispanic communities and Pacific Island nations. The name's short, melodic quality gives it a gentle yet distinctive sound that crosses cultural boundaries. Its simplicity makes it easy to pronounce in multiple languages while maintaining its unique character.
