Begins or Ends with O

A compilation of names that begin (and) or end with the LETTER or SOUND of "O".

Thaddeau is a rare masculine variation of Thaddeus, which derives from the Aramaic name Thaddai, meaning 'heart' or 'courageous'. This uncommon spelling adds a French-inspired flair to the traditional name. The original Thaddeus appears in the New Testament as one of Jesus's twelve apostles, giving the name religious significance. While Thaddeus has maintained modest popularity throughout Western history, the Thaddeau variant remains exceptionally uncommon, offering a distinctive option for parents seeking originality while maintaining historical roots. Its elegant ending creates a sophisticated sound while preserving the strong, virtuous meaning associated with its origin.

Thaddeau

A dashing French surname name most famously borne by Henry David Thoreau, an American naturalist, writer and philosopher who influenced such notable figures as Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. The most common modern American pronunciation is "thor-OH", with emphasis on the final syllable, although Thoreau himself pronounced it "THOR-oh".

The origins of the surname are not entirely clear, although one possibility is that it derives from a diminutive form of the Old French tor, meaning "bull" (the root of the modern French word taureau). A fitting choice for a Taurus baby boy!

Thoreau may also be related to the Norse name Thor "thunder", or to the Germanic name Theodoric and its French form Thierry "ruler of the people".

With its on-trend sound and literary pedigree, Thoreau certainly makes for a rare but appealing choice. Zac and Kate Hanson used it as a middle name for their fifth child, born in 2021.

Thato

The name of minor characters in Shakespeare's two of Roman plays – Julius Caesar and Timon of Athens – and a noble Spanish surname. Though probably etymologically unrelated to the Latin word for truth, "veritas," it still carries the feeling of forthrightness and honesty.

It's also a Latin family name: Marcus Terentius Varro was one of ancient Rome's greatest scholars and a prolific author, and Gaius Terentius Varro was a politician and general in the 3rd century BC.

Victoro is a masculine name that appears to be a variation of Victor, which has Latin origins meaning 'conqueror' or 'winner.' The addition of the 'o' at the end gives it a distinctive Spanish or Italian flair. While not as common as Victor, Victoro maintains the strong, triumphant qualities of its root name while offering a more unique option. The name conveys strength, success, and achievement. Though relatively rare in most English-speaking countries, it may be found in Spanish-speaking communities or among families seeking a slight twist on the traditional Victor.
