Scottish Marjorie and her English twin Margery were early twentieth century favorites that date back to medieval times, when it was popular among the royals. They were at their height in the 1920s, when they were seen as more lively versions of the old standard. Marjorie was always the preferred spelling, in the Top 25 from 1920 to 1927.
 
Derived from classic Margaret, both spelling variants have endured time off the popularity lists, but their three syllables and "ee" ending has meant Marjorie at least now holds vintage charm. The name of a Taylor Swift song that appeared on her "Eras Tour", Marjorie was one of the fastest rising names in the US in 2024 when it re-entered the Top 1000. 
 One notable namesake is Marjorie Stinson, a pioneering aviator who was the first female airline pilot. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was the author of the moving novel The Yearling and Margery Williams's name is on the cover of kiddie favorite The Velveteen Rabbit—and there's always the old nursery rhyme "See-Saw, Margery Daw." 
 Nickname Margie was seen as a prime pert teenager moniker in movies and such vintage TV shows as My Little Margie. Marge is strongly associated with Homer Simpson's wife. Jorie might make for a fresher nickname these days, though MJ, Rorie, Mars, 
 Marjorie could have possibly faded with advent of the word "margarine", but modern parents seem to be overlooking that. The J- spelling must help, as Margery has yet to see renewed interest.

Patricia still sounds patrician, though its scores of nicknames definitely don't. Wildly popular from the forties (alternately Number 3 and 4 throughout the decade) to the sixties, Patricia has been fading ever since. But a comeback in its full form is definitely conceivable—just look at Penelope.
 Patricia began not in Ireland, as some may think, but evolved in Scotland, going on to become mega popular in Britain after the christening of Queen Victoria's granddaughter, Princess Patricia of Connaught, known as "Princess Pat" (though called Patsy by the family). 
 Several of Patricia's short forms took on lives of their own—first Patsy, which was replaced by Patti/Patty, followed by the more upwardly mobile Tricia, Trisha, Trish, Tisha, and Tish. Patrizia is an attractive Italian version.
 Two bestselling contemporary novelists are Patricia Highsmith and Patricia Cornwell, and Patricia is also Rooney Mara's birth name.
