About Lanny

Lanny is a feminine name with diverse origins. It can be a diminutive of names like Alana, Lanelle, or Yolanda, but also functions as an independent given name. In Irish contexts, it may derive from 'Lanney,' meaning 'attendant' or 'servant.' It has also been used as a feminine form of Lance or Lancelot. Lanny gained modest popularity in the United States during the mid-20th century but remains relatively uncommon for girls today. The name carries a friendly, approachable quality with its bright sound and informal charm. Its brevity and ending 'y' sound give it a youthful, endearing quality that can transition well into adulthood.
