About Hélie

A variation of Helias, itself a Latin form of modern favorites, Elias and Elijah, Hélie is a French name, pronounced similarly to the English Ellie but with emphasis on both syllables. Seen occasionally in France, alternative Élie is preferred.

While the Hebrew root is better established, other sources link the name to the Greek Helios (and Roman Aelius) meaning "sun". The typical French forms would be Élio and Elyo in this case, though it make be this ancient, sunny connection parents have in mind.

The name was chosen by Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg her husband, Nicolas Bagory, in 2025.

Pronounced ay-LEE.
