About Eraño

An invented Filipino name, created in the 1920s by Felix Manalo, a minister and founder of the restorationist church, Iglesia ni Cristo. Inspired by the English words "new era", he used it for his son, to reflect his belief in a new Christian age. Eraño Manalo succeeded his father, becoming the Executive Minister of the Iglesia ni Cristo until 2009. It has been predominantly used in the Philippines since then.

Pronounced eh-RAH-nyo.
