Biblical Girl Names

Although this Old Testament name is soft and delicate, it runs the risk of conjuring up the monstrous Godzilla. 

Zilla

There are many variations of this name, with or without the initial T and the final h, with one p or two.  In the Bible she was the wife of Moses.

Zipporah

Deriving from the Greek word phos meaning "light", Photine is a rare choice with a Biblical link. The name of the Samaritan woman in "Jesus and the Woman at the Well" (John 4), Photine is associated with Jesus's mercy and love, and with spreading the word of God.
 
From a more secular point of view, the name is reminiscent of photosynthesis or photograph, lending it a hint of arty-ness and a connection to nature. It could even make an interesting middle name to honor someone who enjoyed gardening or photography. 
 
Photina, Fotini and Foteini are alternative forms.

Photine

An Old Testament name, Bithiah is a bit like Tabitha, Keziah, and Beulah in sound, but heard far less often. In the Bible, Bithiah is the name of one of Pharaoh's daughters, often depicted as the one to take Moses out of the Nile. Used occasionally in the US, it was given to 19 girls in a recent year — the highest number on record.
 
Derived from bat meaning "daughter" and yah meaning "Yahweh", alternative Hebrew and Jewish forms of the name include Batyah and Bitya, while Basya, and Bashe are diminutives. You could also use Bibi, Bee, or Bitsy. 
 While Bithiah may not catch on as Azariah, Priscilla, Azael, and Jaziel have done in recent years, with the general rise in once rare Biblical names, it might gain more attention.

Bithiah

Abiah is a Biblical name that appears for both female and male figures. It may be considered the same as the name Abijah in the Bible; one female Abijah was a queen and ancestor of Christ. Abiah may also be considered a relative of the Arabic name Abia. However you spell or pronounce it -- a - BY -a or a - BEE - a -- this name can be an original way to the nickname Abi.
