About this list

The names of the passengers on the Mayflower, which arrived in Massachusetts in 1620, include many of the old standards you might expect: John, Edward, William, Elizabeth.

But Mayflower names include lots of unique and memorable names too. There are Puritan virtue names such as Resolved and Remember. And then there's the unique name of the baby born during the ship's crossing: Oceanus.

There are no large scale records of names from the 17th century, so documents like a ship's rolls or a town roster are important. The Mayflower passengers brought some of the first names and naming traditions to the US.

Included on this list of Mayflower male and female names are several names that would be considered fashionable today: Alice, Jasper, Myles, Moses, Eleanor, and Elias, for instance.
