Sakura Origin and Meaning

The name Sakura is a girl's name of Japanese origin meaning "cherry blossom".

Lovely Japanese name that would certainly be appreciated in Europe and the U.S. It was rarely used in Japan until the 1990s, and draws its current popularity from the fact that it is deeply connected to Japanese traditional culture without sounding frumpy and old-fashioned.

Why is that? People use names from other cultures all the time.

Betty May Says:

Sakura is such a beautiful, traditional Japanese name. I love it's meaning so much. <3 There's nothing wrong with appreciating other culture's names. I'm not Japanese and I'm considering using this name as a middle name for a daughter if I have one in the future. :) I don't hate anime (there's many good animes to watch) but it's quite annoying how some people will presume you're naming your child after an anime character when that's not necessarily the intention of every single parent/carer out there! I like this name for what it is by itself, not because I want to name my child after an anime character (I'm not judging people who do name a child after an anime character though. Many Japanese names do happen to be lovely).

More unique than Daisy, Poppy, even Tulip and Buttercup, in my opinion. And its very original, And it sounds like a normal name. But a very unique one! I love this name.

summersnow Says:

it's a pretty name but if you're not japanese it would be ridiculous to use it
