I wanted to add this to the discussion. This name came from the old countries. It is also my name. I am a 33 years old, and I am a Male. My great grandfather also had the name. And he was always told that a girl is Ora. And for a boy it is pronounced Orey, like cory without the c. There was another man that was friend to my grandmother that had the name as well. Never really gained popularity. Named my youngest son Orey. I love the name. But everyone in school kept saying it wrong to try and make me mad. But I got over it. And trust me, they were mean about it. There was a girl a grade younger than me that had it as her middle name. And in Italian it used in a sentence like, get down, Ora! It means now.

Rita Ora, anyone?

Jen Says:

Actually, it's St. Benedict, not St. Francis. Ora et labora is the motto of the Benedictine order.

Italienne Says:

Ora doesn't mean prayer: it means pray! in latin(St Francis motto: ora et labora) and hour in Italian
