Don't ask lesliemarion to explain herself. Her head will explode.

The names is actually a Gaelic form of Michael... its not simply a spelling mistake.

It's actually the Irish version of Michael, pronounced mee-haul. It is a name.

Kathrine and Cathrine still look like possible spelling errors to me. Kathryn and Cathryn are established variations. Maybe it's unfair, but conventions and social norms exist.

Definitely looks like more of a spelling mistake than a variant. I heard of one person with this spelling, and apparently his name was indeed spelt this way in error. Parents should learn to spell a name, if they like it enough to want to give it to their child. Is that honestly too much to ask???

I have met a Micheal. He worked as the facilities manager at my grad school. Ergo, it is a name.

It is a spelling error, period. My husband is named Michael and I have frequently typed his name this way in my haste (AND THEN CORRECTED IT!)

Totally agree, seeing as how my name is spelled Kathryn. If someone said this about my name I would be thoroughly upset.

This spelling has been used often enough, over a long amount of time, to be a name. Is Kathryn not a name because it is spelled differently than Catherine?

A typo, not a name!
