Mervyn is my cousin's middle name - to my astonishment he's started using it, in deference, I think, to our part-Welsh ancestry. It reminds me of Merlin the magician and has a certain Celtic charm to it, but seems rather stuffy.

It may well be terminally outdated, but I am fond of Mervyn. It's the "y" and Welshness, I think. Plus I find names from the past comforting.
