My grandmother's name for most of her life has been Mathilde; it was bestowed upon her at age 6 or so when she went to school & the nuns told her that her given name was a heathen name & my great-grandparents were too intimidated to object. The nuns pronounced Mathilde as Ma-TILD, which is what Nana was until she renamed herself Tina (which completely unexpectedly popped out of Nana's mouth when she attended her first singles meeting after my Pop-Pop passed away & was asked what her name was).

I've really been loving this lately. A good choice if you're wary of the -a ending...
