I'm afraid people in the US would think it's a cre8tive spelling of Mary. But it is absolutely beautiful! I'm a little confused on the pronunciation, though.

I'm really surprised that Mhairi isn't listed as a name if Mairi is - especially since I've met three Mhairi's in Scotland, but no Mairi's. Mhairi is usually pronounced MA-ree, although in traditional Scottish Gaelic it's VA-ree (as is the case for two of the three I know). I prefer the latter personally. It's a really familiar name here.
